Our Story

Stacked firewood logs with a vine plant and leaves placed on a windowsill, overlooking a blurred lake and trees outside.

Every retreat has a beginning, and ours started with a spark of vision.

When Melissa (she/her) first discovered the property, lovingly known by the community as the Old Stoneybrook Lodge, she saw more than aging abandoned buildings on a quiet lake.

She imagined a place where people could gather, rest, and reconnect with the beauty of nature.

Ceiling corner with a wooden beam, a wall-mounted light, a white air conditioning unit, and a wall hanging on a dark wall.

With care, determination, and a lot of heart, Melissa and her team began the work of transforming the property into what is now Pinewood Escapes.

Every space, from the lodge to the cozy cottage and studio suites, reflects her dedication to creating a welcoming retreat for others to enjoy.

Along the way her partner Darwin (he/him) joined in, helping to carry forward the vision, turning ideas into reality, and ensuring every guest experience reflects the care and thought that went into the property’s transformation.

Together, they continue to nurture Pinewood Escapes so that guests can experience both the comfort of thoughtful details and the wonder of the surrounding landscape - A place that welcomes everyone.

Colorful wrapped candies and a handwritten note that says "Welcome!" on a wooden tray on a bed with a blurred lamp in the background.

For us, Pinewood Escapes is more than just a place to stay.

It’s a home we’re grateful to share.

Whether you come for a romantic getaway, a family holiday, or a quiet moment by the lake, we hope you feel the same sense of peace and belonging that continues to inspire us.
